As a Barclays Senior Tax Manager, you will have opportunity to supporting the Head of Tax France and the Barclays Europe Tax Director to ensure Barclays entities in France and other locations meet their tax filing/compliance obligations in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Within your team there is an interesting and constantly changing mix of work. Time is spent on both business-as-usual activities and a variety of ad hoc projects, driven by changes within Barclays or the implementation of new tax, regulatory or accounting standards.

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing and signing off in a timely manner of tax returns filings/calculations/payments, ensuring that these have been prepared in line with agreed policies and tax rules
  • Having responsibility for providing technical insight, analysis, and conclusions on a variety of technical areas, ad hoc projects/transactions, and new product approvals
  • Providing support and reviewing the preparation of IFRS and French GAAP current and deferred taxes, booking of tax provisions and tax payments including tax accounts reconciliations
  • Driving continuous improvement and documentation of corporation tax reporting and forecasting processes and controls
  • Ensuring that Barclays is taking the correct tax positions in our returns in the current and prior years, ensuring that we are taking positions which are consistent with our Group tax principles
  • Reviewing and providing support with the transfer pricing report, the annual VAT audit trail report and FEC (computerized accounting file) report
  • Leading any local tax audits and any ad hoc queries from the tax authorities in France and other locations
  • Evaluating, implementing, monitoring procedures/controls to mitigate tax risks and taking ownership of resolutions of specific technical issues as they arise

What we"re looking for

  • Extensive French tax experience, preferably from working at a leading tax advisory firm and/or an institution in the financial services sector with cross-border implications
  • Fluent French with good English language skills and able to communicate confidently
  • Good knowledge and experience with tax accounting data to demonstrate ability to use and interpret financial data
  • Excellent tax technical skills are required to assess the correct tax treatment of various issues with good time management skills

Skills that will help you in the role

  • Able to work independently on several priorities and to tight deadlines, as well as mentoring and developing more junior members of the team
  • Excellent educational background, preferably from a technical or quantitative discipline in Tax Law/Tax Accounting
  • A good understanding of the complexities and nuances of Corporate and Investment Banking businesses
  • Robust problem-solving skills, commercial awareness and able to provide insight to the business of the impact of business decisions on the Group"s tax profile
