Backend & AI Engineer - Agent Platform (All genders)

And yet around 70% of European businesses still manage their fleets manually, with spreadsheets, disconnected tools, and processes that were never built for this moment.

Shiftmove exists to make this simple. We are a profitable B2B SaaS company and the fastest-growing fleet management platform in Europe, born from the merger of Avrios and Vimcar, and now serving tens of thousands of corporate customers across Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, and beyond. Most recently, we acquired Optimum and Ocean in France, expanding our footprint and doubling down on one of Europe's largest fleet markets. Our AI-powered platform connects real-time vehicle data with intelligent software so that businesses can procure smarter, control costs, stay compliant, and lead the transition to cleaner mobility, all from one place.

We have a clear goal: one million vehicles managed on our platform by 2027. We are already at 730,000. The next chapter is about execution, and that is where you come in.

The Role

At Shiftmove, we are way past the POC and experimental stage. We are scaling a production-grade AI Agent Platform from the ground up. We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer with a proven track record of designing, deploying, and optimizing multi-agent architectures that solve complex business logic at scale.

You will be the architect of reliability, ensuring our autonomous agents don't just "chat," but execute highly complex, deterministic, and cost-effective workflows across our entire SaaS ecosystem.

What You Will Build

• Multi-Agent Orchestration: Design, implement, and scale complex reasoning chains, multi-agent collaboration frameworks, and advanced memory/context management systems.
• The Agent Platform Backend: Architect and mature our core internal platform (Python/Google ADK), optimizing for high observability, state management, and real-time token/cost management.
• Production-Grade Evaluation (LLMOps): Build rigorous, continuous evaluation loops and automated testing frameworks to investigate reasoning failures, reduce regressions, and eliminate hallucinations in production.
• Resiliency & Scaling: Implement advanced logging, tracing (e.g., OpenTelemetry, LangSmith/Arize), and guardrails that allow multiple autonomous workflows to run concurrently without breaking.
• Standardization: Establish the architectural patterns and reusable abstractions that define how engineering teams across Shiftmove build and integrate agents safely.

Your Stack

• Languages: Production-grade, expert-level Python.
• AI & Orchestration: Deep experience with LLM APIs, and advanced Agentic Frameworks (Google ADK, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or custom orchestration).
• Software Engineering: Strong backend architecture (FastAPI, gRPC), Docker, CI/CD, and Cloud Infrastructure (GCP/AWS).

What you need to succeed

• Proven AI Track Record: You have spent the last few years actively building, deploying, and maintaining AI applications in production. You have explicitly built multi-agent systems where multiple LLM processes interact to solve a problem.
• Systems First Mindset: You treat AI engineering as a rigorous systems-engineering discipline. You understand deterministic vs. non-deterministic behavior and know how to force stability onto unpredictable models.
• Obsession with Failure Points: When an agent stalls or breaks, you have the debugging skills to trace the exact node failure in the graph, context retrieval failure, or token limit breach.
• Pragmatic Disclipine: You follow AI research closely (Claude, Gemini, GPT developments), but you prioritize maintainability, latency, and cost over flashy trends.

What Success Looks Like

In the first 6 months, a high-performer will:

• Stabilize the Core: Reduce bugs and improve error handling for all agents currently in production.
• Ship Impact: Partner closely with Customer Support and Operations to deliver new agents that measurably reduce manual work and improve response times for customer queries.
• Shared Platform Ownership: You will work in a tight loop with the Team Lead and a dedicated AI peer to manage the deployment and observability of our agentic workflows. Your goal is to harden our infrastructure and ensure that the platform remains robust and maintainable by the entire engineering team.
• Optimize: Implement cost-awareness and token-reduction strategies that make our AI operations sustainable.
